Cross Program Activity Information:

Thursday:

3:00 Mathematics, Music, and the Sublime; Robert Taub, Institute for Advanced Study, and Edward Rothstein, New York Times.

Friday:
3:00 "A conversation with the high school teachers about computational complexity;" Steven Seif, University of Louisville. This presentation is designed for the high school teachers at PCMI and is open to everyone.

Tomorrow at 8:00 p.m.: Robert Taub in concert. Robert Taub is the Artist-in-Residence at the Institute for Advanced Study. On Thursday evening Dr. Taub will present a special piano concert for the participants of PCMI’s Summer Session 2000 and the faculty and members of the Institute for Advanced Study; the concert will take place in Wolfensohn Hall on the Institute campus. Tickets are free of charge but are required: please pick up a ticket from the PCMI office today or tomorrow. Seating is by general admission and limited. Children under the age of 12 are not admitted.

The Computer Lab is open for general use 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and all day on weekends. Due to fire code restrictions on the capacity of the combined Dilworth Room space, the lab is closed for general use from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each weekday while the High School Teacher Program is in session. We appreciate your cooperation in this important matter. The lab is located in the Dilworth Room on the lower level of the Dining Hall. Please note that you will need your Institute Access Card in order to get into the Dining Hall after hours.

Lunch Clarification: The following information might help to make the lunch line more efficient for everyone.

Your lunch ticket entitles you to the following:

Important: Cold entrees are in the section of the food line that begins just inside the entrance door where you pick up your tray. If you are planning on choosing a hot entrée, you need not stand in the line that goes past the cold entrées -- you may go directly to the hot entrée section and form a separate line there. Likewise, if you would prefer a sandwich, you may go directly to that section.

PCMI tote bags are for sale in the PCMI office. Made of canvas duck, these roomy totes are perfect for carrying books, notebooks and pens. The cost is $5.00; quantities are limited.

Re-revised bus schedules have been posted. Please check the board and take a new schedule from the table. We are still fine-tuning the bus schedule, so keep checking the board for updates.

All PCMI participants are invited to join a High School Teacher Program Working Group. See list of groups and meeting times on the bulletin board.

The PCMI Office is located at 95 Morse Lane, in the housing complex. This is adjacent to the laundry room and is entered through the door underneath the carport. Office hours are 8:15-5:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 8:15-1:00 on Wednesdays. Phone: 8140 from any house phone or 734-8140 from the outside.

Coffee and Tea are available daily in the Coffee Lounge (mid-level of the Dining Hall) from 9:30-11:30 a.m. There are water fountains in all buildings on the campus.

The PCMI Message Board is located in the foyer of the Dining Hall (upper level). Messages, sign-up sheets, and announcements will be posted here. Please check the Board as often as possible throughout the day. Daily schedules will be posted on the Board and available for the taking from a table nearby.

We ask that no beverages be taken into the computer lab or any of the lecture halls or meeting rooms. Thank you!

Weekend and Wednesday afternoon trips and get-togethers are organized on a casual basis by PCMI participants. If you are interested in organizing such an activity, please use the blank sign-up sheets on the Message Board. Be sure to indicate the method of transportation, an estimate of the cost, and the number of people you are willing to take along (if there is a limit). The PCMI office has a few guidebooks which you are welcome to use for planning (please do not take them out of the office).
