The emphasis of the Women's Program
is on
mathematics
learning and research, specifically with regard to the PCMI Summer Session
mentoring and peer relations
the introduction of career opportunities in
research mathematics.
The Women's Program is for: undergraduate
students in mathematics, graduate students in mathematics -- especially those graduate
math majors who wish to explore the area where mathematics and physics meet, and
postdoctoral researchers in the field.
Most women mathematicians work and study in an environment
with few female co-workers. The Women's Program provides an opportunity for a different
experience.
Formerly affiliated with the IAS/Park City Mathematics
Institute's Summer Session, the Women's Program now takes its research topic from the
Institute for Advanced Study's School of Mathematics Special Year program. The
10-day Women's Program provides a combination of academic activities and mentoring
and networking sessions in addition to the opportunity to meet and converse with
mathematicians in residence at the Institute for Advanced Study.
A variety of activities, both formal and informal, are
designed to encourage interaction among the groups as well as provide strong mathematics
at all levels. Daily activities include:
In addition, more advanced participants are encouraged to
provide review and problem sessions, interact with the local research community, and
organize research seminars.
Dinners and social activities are organized by the
participants themselves.
