application. Incomplete application packages cannot be forwarded to
the selection committee.
Guidelines for each program are contained in pertinent
sections below. Applicants should choose the one program which is most appropriate for
them. Included in each section is a list of the items necessary for a complete application
package.
Financial support is available in all
programs. Applicants are invited to request financial support by checking the appropriate boxes on the application form.

PROCEDURES FOR APPLICATION SUBMISSION:

Supplemental information may be submitted via e-mail, fax, or regular postal or express

Letters of Recommendation:
Letters of Recommendation may be submitted via
email directly from the person writing the recommendation, or by regular postal or express service, or by fax. A follow-up phone call or email to confirm
receipt is recommended.
Curriculum Vitae:
Curriculum vitae should be submitted via regular postal or
express service. Your vita may be faxed or emailed if it is no more than 2 pages in
length.
Pre-print (where applicable):
If a preprint is submitted in support of your application,
please send only the abstract and the reference pages. Preprints should be submitted as
hard copies via regular postal or express service, or they may be faxed if no more than 3
pages. Electronic submission is also possible (.pdf file attachment), providing there are no more than 3 pages to
be printed out. Otherwise, please send a hard copy.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES BY PROGRAM
Undergraduate
Faculty
PhDs with at least two years of teaching experience
are welcome to apply. This program is not for graduate students.
UFP application requirements:

Education Researchers
Participation in Summer Session 2004 is by invitation.
High School Teachers
and Math Specialists
All teachers interested in participating in the Summer
Session, including those who have participated in the past and are active members of a
Professional Development and Outreach group, must apply for admission. If
possible, high
school teachers should live within reasonable driving distance of one of the cooperating
universities in order to attend PDO group meetings during the academic year
(although this is not a requirement). See the Professional Development and Outreach Program page for a complete listing of these
groups.
HSTP application requirements:
Groups of at least 5 teachers from cities or regions other
than those listed may apply if they have been able to find an interested
university/college faculty member to act as PDO group leader (contact Catherine Giesbrecht at
giesbrec@ias.edu or call 1-609-734-8290 before applying).
Math Specialists requirements:
Graduate Students
and Postdoctoral Scholars
Some mobility between programs is expected and encouraged, but
interested candidates should read the guidelines carefully and apply to the one program
best suited to their field of study and experience. Postdoctoral scholars who are working
in the field of Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations should apply
to the Research Program, not to the Graduate Summer School..
Graduate Summer
School:
Graduate students who are beyond their basic courses and
recent PhDs in all fields of mathematics are encouraged to apply to the Graduate Summer
School. Funding will go primarily to graduate students. Postdoctoral scholars not working
in the field of Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations should also
apply, but should be within four years of receipt of their PhD.
Graduate Summer School application requirements:
Mathematical
Researchers
Research mathematicians and postdoctoral scholars working
in the field of Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations are
encouraged to apply. The applicant should already have obtained a PhD or be expecting to
receive one by the summer of 2002. This program is not for graduate students or for PhDs
with limited expertise in the research topic. (see guidelines for Graduate Summer School).
Research Program application requirements:
Undergraduate
Students
Undergraduate mathematics majors interested in an intensive
research experience in mathematics are encouraged to apply to the Undergraduate Program.
Undergraduates at all levels will be considered. A modest stipend will be awarded to
participants who are U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
