Designing & Delivering Professional Development Program
July 5 - 10, 2009 — Application DEADLINE January 28, 2009
Designing and Delivering Professional Development consists of a one week summer session experience for those who are responsible for professional development activities for secondary school mathematics teachers. This would include, among others,
- mathematicians;
- university mathematics educators;
- mathematics supervisors;
- leaders from the PCMI Professional Development and Outreach (PDO) groups.
This session is connected to the first week of PCMI's Secondary School Teachers Program.
The Designing and Delivering Professional Development group consists of Professional Development and Outreach (PDO) leaders, PD3 (the PCMI Mathematics Science Partnership) leadership team members, and mathematics educators involved in some form of teacher preparation. The group brings together mathematicians, mathematics education faculty, supervisors, and curriculum coordinators and inservice providers. The focus is on providing a professional development opportunity for those who provide professional development to secondary teachers. The discussion and interaction is intended to support participants in their own work in a variety of professional development settings. Organized around a mathematical topic related to the general PCMI theme, participants collectively consider issues in working with teachers of secondary school mathematics, share their experiences and strategies that have been successful in helping them improve what they do in their classrooms.
PCMI is always interested in forming new Professional Development and Outreach groups (PDOs) and invites teachers or university faculty to consider forming such a group for future involvement in PCMI. Attending Designing and Delivering Professional Development is a good way to find out what a PDO group is and how one functions.
