"New Insights Into Quantum Matter"
July 20-31, 2015
The 2015 PiTP/PSSCMP program is now complete. Thank you to eveyrone who participated in the program this year!
Videos of the lectures can be found here. A directory of participants can be found here.
Program Description
From July 20 to 31, 2015, the 14th annual Prospects in Theoretical Physics (PiTP) summer program will be offered as a joint program, co-sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), the Princeton Center for Complex Materials (PCCM), and the Princeton Center for Theoretical Sciences (PCTS). PiTP 2015 will be merged with the 11th annual Princeton Summer School on Condensed Matter Physics (PSSCMP) (www.princeton.edu/pccmeducation/graduate/psscmp/). This joint PiTP/PSSCMP program will deal with aspects of quantum field theory that are of interest to high energy and condensed matter physicists. Topics will include theory and experimental probes of symmetry-protected topological phases and other topological states of condensed matter systems. Theoretical tools presented will be topological band theory, Chern-Simons theory, and applications of topological quantum field theory. We expect the first week to be more introductory and the second week to be more formal.
As usual, this program is meant for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The first week will take place on the campus of Princeton University and the second week on the campus of the Institute. Applicants can request to attend the first week only (July 20-24) or the full two-week program (July 20-31). Applicants will not have the option to attend the second week only, since the first week is designed as an introduction to the second week. A basic knowledge of condensed matter and field theory is expected of PiTP participants.
A detailed schedule of events can be found here.
The pre-reading list is now available here. Please check regularly as the list will be updated frequently.
A registration fee of $30 USD will be required of all participants, to be paid in cash at registration on Monday, July 20.
Out-of-town participants will be offered single accommodations in dorms on the Princeton University campus. Applicants for the full two-week program will be offered dorm accommodations at the subsidized cost of $400 USD (check-in Sunday, July 19 to check-out Friday, July 31).
If you have not paid for your dorm accommodations, but wish to do so, please email pitp@ias.edu for assistance in arranging for payment.
