Arrival Information
Housing Check-In (Sunday, July 15th)

Please refer to the Princeton Campus map upon your arrival to see the locations of the buildings referenced in the instructions below.

Participants housed on Princeton University's campus will have a room in Bloomberg Hall Dormitory. The dorm is a short distance from the Princeton “Dinky” Train Station.  Please note, there is a distinct Bloomberg Hall on the IAS campus where the School of Natural Sciences is located, and it should not be confused with the dormitory.

Princeton University staff will be on hand at the PU Bloomberg Hall Dormitory between the hours 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 15th to assist with check-in and provide dorm keycards.

If you arrive on campus after 3:00 PM, you may collect your dorm keycard at Princeton’s Public Safety Office, located at 200 Elm Street (across from Bloomberg Hall.)

NOTE: Please be certain to keep your keycard with you at ALL times. Your keycard opens both the outer doors to the building and your dorm room door. Outer doors remain locked at all times and room doors lock automatically when they close.

  • Smoking is NOT permitted in the dorms.
  • NO pets or overnight guests may stay with you in the dorms.
  • You will be held responsible for ANY damages to your dorm room that may occur during your stay.
  • You will have access to all traditional common room areas of Bloomberg Hall, including lounges and kitchenettes, which may be used by participants.

Registration Check-In (Monday, July 17th)

Please come to the registration desk in Fuld Hall on the Institute for Advanced Study campus on Monday, July 17th between the hours of 8:00am and 9:00am. You will be given a name badge and welcome materials. Your name badge will serve as both your lecture and meal admittance tickets, so please wear your name badge at ALL times.

Directions for Walking To/From the Institute for Advanced Study

Internet Access

Princeton University will offer PiTP participants internet access through the “puvisitor” network for free while they are staying in the university dorms. Participants can also access EDURoam if their home institution participates in the program.

If you have issues connecting to the internet through the “puvisitor” network, you may be required to register your computer. Forms will be available at dorm check-in, in case they are needed.

Laundry Facilities

There are washers and dryers on each floor of Bloomberg Hall that may be used at no charge. Laundry detergent can be purchased at the Princeton University Store.

Parking Options

If you are planning to drive to Princeton, there is only one parking lot available, Lot 20, for your use. You will receive a parking permit when you pick up your dorm keycard. We suggest you will find it most convenient to leave your car parked at Princeton and walk to the Institute, but the Institute does provide free parking.

Telephone Use

There will be NO phone service available in the dorms. Participants should bring a cell phone with an international calling plan, as needed.

Access to Princeton University Gymnasium

Participants will be allowed to buy daily passes for access to the Princeton University Gymnasium. Passes cost $5.00 and may be purchased either at dorm check-in or from the Princeton Conference Services Office, located at 71 University Place. For further information, you can call the office at +1-609-258-6115 between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Bike Rentals

Princeton has recently joined with Zagster to establish a bike share and rental program in the town. For a $20 membership fee and a charge of $2 per hour for any trip lasting longer than two hours, members can stop by one of the bike share kiosks and pick up a bike. Kiosks are located throughout the downtown Princeton area and the university campus and are a convenient and inexpensive way to get around.

You can learn more by visiting the Zagster website.

Purchasing Necessities

There are two stores very close to the dorm where participants can buy basic items. The Princeton University Store is located at 36 University Place. It is open Monday-Saturday from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm and on Sundays from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. The store sells pens, paper, basic toiletries, laundry detergent, some over-the-counter medications, snacks and drinks.

There is also a Wawa Convenience Store located on Alexander Road, just south of the circle and University Place. It is located in the parking lot of the train station. Wawa is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It sells sandwiches and snacks (both hot and cold), drinks and a limited variety of fruits. Wawa also has an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
