Traveling from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
Newark Airport is about two hours from Princeton when traveling by public transportation. It is about one hour by car, assuming no delays.
We recommend the NJ Transit train service as the most convenient way to travel to Princeton.
AirTrain from Newark Airport
The free AirTrain at Newark Airport provides easy transportation from the airport to a nearby train station that serves New Jersey Transit (trains to New York City, Princeton, and other destinations within New Jersey) and AMTRAK (trains to New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, etc.). Take the AirTrain from your terminal to Airport Station to connect to New Jersey Transit and Amtrak.
You can find more information about the AirTrain here.
New Jersey Transit Train Service
You will find information on the New Jersey Transit train schedules here.
You should select the “Northeast Corridor” Rail Line Schedule and look for the Saturday/Sunday/Holiday section to find information on trains from Newark Penn Station to Princeton Junction station on Sunday, July 16. All Northeast Corridor trains in the direction of Trenton stop at Princeton Junction.
You would take a New Jersey Transit train from Newark Penn Station to the “Princeton Junction” station. From “Princeton Junction,” you may take a taxi (at a cost of about $20 US) or you may take the New Jersey Transit shuttle train (sometimes referred to as the “DINKY”) from the Princeton Junction station to the Princeton station, then you may walk to the Institute (about 20 minutes) or your program housing (about 10 minutes). If you plan to take the Dinky, it is cheaper to buy a single ticket from Newark Airport to Princeton rather than separate tickets from Newark Airport to Princeton Junction and from Princeton Junction to Princeton. We will provide participants staying in program housing with further details when we notify them of their specific housing assignments shortly before the start of the program.
PLEASE NOTE: As of January 8, 2018, service on the NEC and NJCL will be adjusted to accommodate Amtrak track rehabilitation work at New York Penn Station. During this time, schedules will be modified. Other train lines may have slight adjustments.
